SeroBooks for Windows is installed from a single package file. Once it is installed it looks after its own updates: it checks for a new version when it starts and every hour after that, and when one is out it offers to install it for you. Updating keeps your settings and everything on this computer; your books themselves are kept on the SeroBooks server and are not touched by installing or updating.
Install SeroBooks for Windows
- Download the installer from https://seropos.app/public/SeroBooks.msix. Your browser saves it to your Downloads folder.
- Open the downloaded file SeroBooks.msix (double-click it, or click it in your browser's downloads list).
- Windows opens App Installer with the SeroBooks name and publisher. Click Install.
- When it finishes, SeroBooks opens on the sign-in screen. It is now in your Start menu under SeroBooks.
- Sign in with the email address or username and password for your company. See Sign in.
The first sign-in on a computer downloads your company's lists to this computer, and shows Syncing Data… while it does. This takes longer than later sign-ins, which fetch only what has changed.
How SeroBooks tells you about a new version
SeroBooks checks for a new version when it starts and every hour while it is open. When it finds one:
- A window titled SeroBooks version is ready opens once for that version. It shows the version you have ("You have 6.1.13.") and a short note of what changed.
- A green Update to *version* button appears in the dark bar at the top of the screen, and stays there until you update. If the update fixes something that must not wait, the button is red and reads Update required.
- In the left navigation panel, Check for Updates becomes Update to *version*.
Checking needs an internet connection. If the check cannot reach the server, SeroBooks says nothing and tries again an hour later.
Update SeroBooks
- Click the Update to *version* button in the top bar, or choose Help ▸ Check for Updates….
- In the SeroBooks version is ready window, click Update now. (Click Later to carry on working; the button stays in the top bar.)
- If any window has changes you have not saved, SeroBooks asks first: You have changed the transaction. "Updating closes SeroBooks. Save what you are working on first, or discard it and update now." Click Keep editing to go back and save, or Discard changes to update now.
- SeroBooks downloads the new version and shows Downloading… n%.
- When the download is complete, Windows opens App Installer, and SeroBooks shows: "Windows has opened the installer. Click Update there: SeroBooks closes, updates and opens again by itself. Your data and settings stay."
- In App Installer, click Update. SeroBooks closes, installs the new version and opens again. You are still signed in to the same company, as you are whenever you close SeroBooks without signing out.
The downloaded package is kept out of the way in a hidden folder, .serobooks-updates in your Windows user folder, not in Downloads. SeroBooks removes it (and any older update packages it saved in Downloads before) the next time it starts, so you do not need to tidy anything up.
Check for updates yourself
Choose Help ▸ Check for Updates…, or click Check for Updates in the left navigation panel (the ☰ button at the left of the dark bar).
- If a newer version is out, the SeroBooks version is ready window opens.
- If not, SeroBooks says SeroBooks is up to date — "You have version, the latest version."
Which version do I have?
Open the left navigation panel: the version is printed at the top, under the SeroBooks logo, as Version: *number*. The update window also says which version you have.
Messages you may see

Reinstalling
Installing the package again over an existing copy is safe: it replaces the program and keeps your settings. If you uninstall SeroBooks from Windows Settings ▸ Apps, the copy of your lists on this computer is removed with it; your books on the server are not affected, and the next sign-in downloads your lists again.
