A QuickBooks Desktop alternative that feels like home
You chose QuickBooks Desktop because it was fast and it made sense. SeroBooks keeps that. It has the menus, the Home Page, the forms and the keyboard shortcuts Desktop users know, and it runs the same company on Windows, Mac, iPad, Android and the web.
The menus you know
File, Edit, View, Lists, Favorites, Company, Customers, Vendors, Employees, Banking, Reports, Window and Help.
Forms in their own windows
Open an invoice, a bill and a report side by side, move between them with Ctrl+Tab, tile or cascade them.
Keyboard first
Typed dates, Save & New, and shortcuts such as Ctrl+I for an invoice and Ctrl+W for a cheque.
Your company comes with you
Connect to QuickBooks Desktop and read the company across, with a dry run before anything is written.
Competitor capabilities as of August 2026, from their published materials; tiers and features change — verify current details with the vendor. All trademarks belong to their owners.
What stays the same
The Home Page shows your work as a flow: purchase orders, receiving inventory, entering bills and paying them; estimates, sales orders, invoices, receiving payments and making deposits; and the Company and Banking panels beside them. Each icon opens its form.
The forms are the ones you use every day: Create Invoices, Enter Sales Receipts, Receive Payments, Enter Bills with Expenses and Items tabs, Pay Bills, Write Cheques, Enter Credit Card Charges, Make Deposits and Transfer Funds. Lists include Terms, Customer:Job, classes, Price Levels and custom fields. You can memorize a form and use it again, void a document and keep its number at zero, and set a closing date with a password.
What is new
The same company opens on every device, so the office, the warehouse and a tablet on the floor see the same numbers. Amazon settlements post themselves. Payroll for every Canadian province and territory and for the United States is part of the Pro plan. Team chat is built in, and on Windows a new version installs with one click.
One honest difference: SeroBooks needs an internet connection. Your books live on our servers so that every device and every person sees the same thing at the same time.
Moving across calmly
Pick a month boundary. Read your company across from QuickBooks Desktop, check the trial balance in the dry run, then commit. Run both for a month if you like, and keep QuickBooks Desktop as your archive. If your accountant works in QuickBooks Desktop, SeroBooks can export back to it.
Choose SeroBooks when…
Choose SeroBooks if you like the Desktop way of working and want it on every device, with inventory, Amazon and payroll in the same books.
Choose QuickBooks Desktop when…
Stay with QuickBooks Desktop if you need to work fully offline, or your setup depends on add-ons that only run with it.
Frequently asked questions
Will I have to learn a new system?
Much less than usual. The menus, the Home Page, the main forms and the report groups follow the same layout QuickBooks Desktop users know, so most people find their way on day one.
Does SeroBooks work offline?
No. SeroBooks needs an internet connection. That is what lets the same company open on Windows, Mac, iPad, Android and the web with the same numbers everywhere.
Can I keep my history?
Yes. Read your company across from QuickBooks Desktop — a whole year of sales, buying, expenses and journals, with open invoices and bills — or import an IIF file. Keep QuickBooks Desktop as your archive for older years.
Can my accountant keep using QuickBooks Desktop?
Yes. SeroBooks exports to QuickBooks Desktop, with tax codes matched by rate, and the export has been reconciled to the penny against a real business.
