Documentation

The full knowledge base — the same help that lives on every screen inside the app — is being published here page by page. The how-to guides below cover the core workflows today, and the ? button inside SeroBooks answers in context, always.

Step-by-step guides

How to reconcile a bank account

A practical, step-by-step bank reconciliation walkthrough: gather the statement, tick what cleared, explain what didn't, finish at zero.

The month-end checklist

A repeatable month-end close for a small business: reconcile, review aging, post the recurring, read the statements — in an hour, every month.

The Canadian year-end checklist

Everything a Canadian small business should do at fiscal year-end: counts, reconciliations, CCA, GIFI, the retained-earnings roll and the lock.

Writing off inventory, properly

Damaged, expired or missing stock has to leave the books with a reason. How to write off inventory so shrinkage is visible and defensible.

Petty cash without the mystery

A simple petty cash system: a fixed float, receipts for everything, and top-ups that reconcile the difference.

Running payroll without dreading the 15th

How a Canadian pay run actually works — gross to net, CPP and EI, the remittance deadline, and what has to be true before you file T4s.

Knowing when you run out, before you run out

How to set reorder points from your own sales history and lead times, why a safety buffer is not padding, and what seasonal demand does to both.

Aging reports: the collections engine

Receivables aging turns 'people owe us money' into a work list. The buckets, the cadence, and the statement-and-call routine that works.

Leaving QuickBooks Desktop, calmly

A practical migration path off QuickBooks Desktop — what to move, when to cut over, and how to keep your accountant comfortable throughout.

Staff roles that match how your store actually runs

How to design roles for a small business — start from templates, use visible-but-locked for supervised actions, audit the rest.

Inventory counts that end arguments

Full counts and cycle counts: preparing, counting, posting the differences, and reading what the variances are telling you.

Amazon settlements, reconciled without tears

What is inside an Amazon settlement report, why the deposit never equals your sales, and how to post it so the bank reconciliation matches.

Batching the drawer into the bank

How to batch cash and cheques into deposits that reconcile — the drawer count, the slip, and the posting that matches the statement.

A budget you will still use in February

How to set a small-business budget from last year's actuals, review it monthly against the ledger, and actually change behaviour with it.

Can't find it? Support answers real questions — and every screen in the app carries its own help panel with search.

The manual is inside the app

Every screen in SeroBooks carries its own help panel, opened with the button in the top bar or by pressing F1. It explains the screen you are actually looking at — what each field does, which buttons matter, the rules worth knowing, and the mistakes people usually make — rather than sending you to a search box to describe a screen you can already see.

The panel searches within the page, prints, and translates into eleven languages, which matters on a shop floor where the person who needs the answer is not always the person who bought the software. New staff learn from the screen they are standing in front of.

Where to look for what

For a procedure — how to reconcile, how to close a year, how to count stock — the guides above walk it step by step and are written for owners rather than for accountants. For a term you have hit and want defined, the glossary covers sixty-seven of them with a worked example each.

For "what does this button do", the in-app panel is faster than any website will ever be, because it already knows which screen you are on. And for anything genuinely unclear, support answers real questions — the answers that come back most often are the ones that become guides here.
