Accounting Software for Retail Stores

Retail runs on three systems that never quite agree: the POS, the inventory spreadsheet, and the books your accountant sees. Every gap between them is hours of reconciliation — or money quietly leaking.

Why three systems become three versions of the truth

The usual Canadian retail stack is a point-of-sale package, a spreadsheet the manager keeps for stock, and an accounting product the bookkeeper opens once a month. Each is defensible alone. Together they guarantee drift: the till knows what sold, the spreadsheet knows what was counted, the ledger knows what was banked, and no two agree on a Tuesday.

Reconciling them is not a small tax. It is the hour after close, the Saturday the owner spends on shrink, and the annual argument with the accountant about opening inventory. None of that work creates a single dollar of margin — it exists only because the systems are separate.

One save, four records

In SeroBooks a counter sale is simultaneously a receipt, a stock movement, a receivable (or a payment) and a posted double-entry journal. Not four systems agreeing afterwards — one transaction that cannot disagree with itself. There is no export step because there is nothing to export.

The practical result is that closing is a look, not a project. Today's sales, today's payments by method, and today's ledger entries are the same data seen at three altitudes.

Built for a counter, not a demo

The selling screen keeps the cursor in the scan box and is driven entirely from the keyboard — scan, adjust quantity, F9 to charge. Split payments, card surcharges, held sales that keep stock reserved, and receipts by print, email or WhatsApp all live where the queue can reach them.

It also runs offline on a local database, which matters more in Canadian retail than any feature chart: a dropped connection at 4pm on a Friday should cost you nothing.

Control that fits a shop floor

Roles are a View/Allow tree over every screen and action, enforced at the server: clerks sell, refunds and discounts can require approval, and margins stay invisible to whoever should not see them. Every gated action that happens is recorded with who did it.

That is enterprise control at one counter or two hundred, without an enterprise tier to upgrade into.
