Accounting Software for Grocery & Convenience Stores
Thousands of SKUs, pennies of margin, and stock that expires. A grocery lives or dies on rotation discipline and write-off honesty — the two things generic ledgers cannot even see.
How SeroBooks answers it
Thin margins punish invisible losses
A grocery makes pennies per line across thousands of SKUs, so the difference between a good year and a bad one is rarely price — it is the stock that quietly went off, walked out, or was written down without anyone recording why. Generic ledgers cannot see any of it, because to them inventory is one number that changes once a year.
The losses that matter here are dated: yoghurt with eleven days left, a case of produce nobody rotated, a batch that should have been marked down on Thursday instead of binned on Sunday.
Expiry expressed in money
The Expiry screen turns 'some stock is going off' into a number: value at risk inside the next 7, 30 or 90 days, expired batches still showing stock, and batches watched across locations. A markdown decision finally has a figure to weigh against, and the weekly rotation round starts itself.
Batches are keyed as goods arrive, so tracking costs nothing extra at the door. When a sale does not name a batch, the oldest with stock is drawn automatically — the shelf rotates by default.
Write-offs with an author and a reason
Every adjustment records who made it and why, in plain English — 'expired, pulled from shelf' — and lands in the damaged-goods report and the ledger. An untracked write-off is indistinguishable from stock walking out the door, so the product refuses to allow one.
Damage and count-correction are separate types, because one is a loss and the other is a fix, and blending them hides the real number.
Volume that does not slow the till
The catalogue lives on the machine, so a three-thousand-line file searches instantly and keeps selling through an outage. Weighed goods sell in decimal quantities all the way through to the return flow, and labels print from the same product file with validated barcodes.
Recall tracing comes free of the same data: open a batch and see every sale it went out on, with customer and invoice.
