Amazon takes many kinds of charge out of each payout: referral fees, fulfilment fees, storage, subscription, closing fees, advertising, promotions and more, and it adds new ones without notice. The Fees screen answers two questions: was I charged correctly? (the fee audit at the top) and where does each charge post in my books? (the fee list below it).
How to open it
Amazon ▸ Fees.
The shared period and marketplace bar applies, so you can see what one payout, month or marketplace cost you. Here the period uses the date each charge was posted.
The fee audit
Amazon prices FBA fulfilment from a size tier it assigns from dimensions and weight it measured itself. If a measurement is wrong, the product sits in a larger tier and every unit ships at the wrong fee, quietly. The audit compares what you were charged per unit with the fee Amazon publishes for the product's own size tier.
The audit uses Amazon's fee estimate report, which SeroBooks fetches once a week. Until the first one arrives, a short note explains that there is nothing to compare yet; if the report is not available at all, the audit is simply not shown.
A summary card reads either:
- Amazon charged $X more than its own published fee across N SKU(s)… (amber), with the advice that a persistent gap usually means the recorded dimensions or weight put the product in the wrong size tier, which Amazon can correct; or
- Every SKU was charged the fulfilment fee Amazon publishes for it. Nothing to dispute. (green).
The table lists the SKUs whose charge differs from the published fee by more than a cent or two:
| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| SKU / product | The SKU, with the product name (or ASIN) beneath. |
| Size tier | The tier Amazon assigned. |
| Amazon's dimensions | Longest × median × shortest side and weight, in Amazon's own units. This is the evidence you quote when you open a case. |
| Units | Units shipped in the period. |
| Should be | Amazon's published fee per unit for that tier. |
| Charged | What you were actually charged per unit. |
| Difference | Total over or under for the period: red with + when overcharged, green when undercharged. |
Double-click a row to open the product's sales history. If the SKU is not mapped to a SeroBooks item you are told so; map it on Products.
To dispute an overcharge, open a case in Seller Central quoting the SKU and the dimensions in the table and ask Amazon to re-measure the product. SeroBooks does not open cases for you.
Charges nothing knows how to post
Shown only when there are any. These are charges whose description SeroBooks has no rule for. They did not stop the settlement: each one posted to Amazon Unmapped (Holding) so the settlement still ties to the deposit, and an issue was raised. Until you give it a rule, that money sits as unclassified expense.
Each line shows Amazon's description (in bold), the transaction type, the number of lines, when it was last seen, and the total in red.
To give it a rule, go to Issues, find the matching fee issue and choose Assign account role. Every posted settlement that carried the charge is re-posted with the correction.
What you are charged
Every charge your business has seen in the period, most expensive first. When everything is classified the caption says so. Each line shows:
- Amazon's description (for example Commission, FBAPerUnitFulfillmentFee, StorageFee);
- the transaction type (Order, Refund, other), posts to and the posting role, the number of lines and the date last seen;
- the total for the period.
No settlements imported yet. appears before the first settlement arrives.
Rules you have not needed yet
Collapsed at the bottom: the fee rules SeroBooks knows but your settlements have not used, each as description, transaction type → role. It is reference, so you can see where a new charge would post if Amazon starts using it.
Posting roles
A posting role is a slot in your posting set-up that points at one account. The fee list (after posts to) and the Post this fee to… dialog on Issues print each role by its short name, shown in the first column below:
| Role | Standard account | Typical Amazon charges |
|---|---|---|
amazon_commission | Amazon Commission | Commission, refund commission, sales fee |
fba_fees | Amazon FBA Fees | FBA per-unit and per-order fulfilment, weight-based, inbound transportation, removal, shipping labels, shipping chargeback |
fba_storage | Amazon FBA Storage | Storage fee, long-term storage fee |
advertising_expense | Advertising Expense | Cost of advertising, deal fees |
amazon_service_fees | Amazon Service Fees | Subscription, variable and fixed closing fees, tax calculation service fee, registration, high-volume listing fee, adjustments |
promotions_given | Promotions Given | Promotions, coupon fees, goodwill |
amazon_reserve | Amazon Reserve | Reserve held and released, debt recovery, micro deposits, failed transfers |
sales_revenue | Sales Revenue | Principal, gift wrap |
sales_returns | Sales Returns | Refunded principal, restocking fees |
shipping_income | Shipping and Delivery Income | Shipping charged |
tax_payable | GST/HST Payable | Tax collected, marketplace facilitator tax |
inventory_shrinkage | Inventory Adjustment (Shrinkage) | Warehouse lost and damaged reimbursements, reversals, clawbacks |
amazon_unmapped | Amazon Unmapped (Holding) | Anything not recognised |
GST/HST Amazon charges on its own fees ("Tax on fee") posts to GST/HST Receivable (ITC) so you can claim it back.
Which account each role points to is set by SeroBooks when you connect Amazon, or with Create & map standard accounts on Settings. An account can be renamed in the Chart of Accounts without breaking the mapping.
Tips
- For a printable list of every charge grouped the way the books are, run Amazon Fees by Type. See Amazon reports.
- For the fees behind one payout, including the tax on them, open the settlement and choose Orders, tax & charges ▸ What this payout cost.
- The Overview's Full breakdown splits Amazon fees for any period into commission, fulfilment and the rest.
Common problems
A fee is in Amazon Unmapped (Holding). Assign it a role from Issues. You need the Map a Fee permission.
The fee audit is missing. Amazon's fee estimate report has not been fetched yet (it runs weekly), or no SKU differs from its published fee.
Undercharges show in green. They are not a problem to fix; they are shown so you can trust the overcharges.
