Besides the Report Centre, SeroBooks has five quick report screens, each answering one everyday question at a glance with summary tiles over a simple table:

ScreenOpens fromAnswers
Sales reportReports ▸ Sales ▸ Sales ReportsHow much did we invoice each day, and how much of it has been paid?
Purchases reportReports ▸ Purchases ▸ Purchase ReportsWhich bills came in, and what do we still owe on them?
Inventory valuationReports ▸ Inventory ▸ Inventory ReportsWhat stock do we hold right now, at cost and at selling price?
Damaged goodsReports ▸ Inventory ▸ Damaged GoodsWhat was written off as damaged, from which invoice, and why?
Tax reportReports ▸ Sales Tax ▸ Sales Tax SummaryHow much sales tax did we charge, rate by rate?

They work from your documents (invoices, credit memos and bills) rather than from the ledger. For the books' own figures, and for the reports you file from, use the Report Centre (see The Report Centre).

What the screens share

Choosing the period

The four dated screens (all but Inventory valuation, which is always live stock) open on the last 30 days and show the dates beside the title (2026-08-27 → 2026-09-25). To change them:

  • 7d, 30d, 90d — the last 7, 30 or 90 days, ending today.
  • Quarter, month, year ▾ — a menu headed PERIODS YOU CAN FILE FROM: this month, last month, the last completed quarter, the quarter before it, this fiscal year and last fiscal year. Quarters and years follow your company's fiscal year. The chosen period's name replaces the button text.
  • Pick two dates… (at the foot of that menu) — any two dates, up to the end of next year.

Buttons and table

  • Refresh reloads the figures.
  • Email and Export work as on every report: Export saves CSV, Excel or PDF; Email sends it as an attachment. Both carry the period by name, the table and the summary tiles. See Print, export and email a report.
  • The tiles above the table summarise the period.
  • Double-click a row, or select it and press Enter, to open what it adds up.
  • The footer shows the number of rows and what the figures include.

If a period has more documents than the screen can fetch at once, an amber banner warns: This period has more documents than one pull returns — the figures below are a MINIMUM, not the full period. Narrow the range (or use the back office) before filing anything from them. Use a shorter period, or the matching Report Centre report.

Sales report

One row per day, newest first, for invoices dated in the period.

ColumnWhat it shows
DateThe invoice date.
InvoicesHow many invoices are dated that day.
SalesTheir total, including tax.
CollectedPayments recorded against those invoices (refunds subtract).
OutstandingSales less Collected: what is still unpaid on that day's invoices.

Tiles: Invoices, Total sales, Collected, Outstanding and Average sale (total sales divided by the number of invoices).

Only saved (final) invoices count; estimates and held or pending sales are left out. Credit memos are not listed on this screen. Double-click a day to open Sales by Customer Detail for that day.

Purchases report

One row per bill dated in the period.

ColumnWhat it shows
RefThe bill's reference number.
DateThe bill date.
SupplierThe vendor.
TotalThe bill total.
PaidPayments made against it (refunds from the vendor subtract).
OwingTotal less Paid.

Tiles: Bills, Total purchases, Paid, Owing. The screen fetches up to 1,000 bills for a period; beyond that the amber banner appears. Double-click a bill to open it in Enter Bills.

Inventory valuation

Every item with stock on hand right now, valued at its cost and at its selling price. There is no period: quantities are live.

ColumnWhat it shows
ItemThe item (and its variation, when it has one).
CodeIts SKU.
On handThe quantity in stock across all locations.
Unit costThe item's purchase cost as set on the item. — when none is set.
Stock valueOn hand × unit cost.
Retail valueOn hand × the item's selling price.

Tiles: Items in stock, Units, Value at cost, Value at retail, and Potential margin (retail less cost). When some items in stock have no cost, the tile reads Value at cost (INCOMPLETE), a tile Items with no cost on this device says how many were valued at zero, and Potential margin is not shown. A tile INCOMPLETE — first 3,000 catalogue items only appears for very large catalogues.

Double-click an item to open its Item ledger: every movement in and out, across all locations. The footer reads Valued at catalog cost · live quantities.

Damaged goods

Every item written off as damaged in the period.

ColumnWhat it shows
DateWhen it was written off.
ItemThe item (and variation).
CodeIts SKU.
QtyHow many were written off.
Loss valueWhat the write-off cost.
WarehouseThe location the stock left.
InvoiceThe invoice it came from, when it came back from a sale.
CustomerThat invoice's customer.
ReasonThe reason recorded.

Tiles: Write-offs, Units lost, Loss value, Invoices affected. Double-click a row to open its invoice.

Tax report (Sales Tax Summary)

The tab is called Tax (GST/PST) in a Canadian company and Tax in a US one. It shows the sales tax you charged in the period, one row per tax.

ColumnWhat it shows
TaxThe tax, such as GST 5% or PST 7%.
RateIts percentage.
Taxable amountThe sales it was charged on.
Tax collectedThe tax charged.

How it is worked out:

  • Combined rates are split. A 12% "GST + PST" code on an invoice appears as a GST 5% row and a PST 7% row, because they go on different returns.
  • Credit memos subtract. Tax you refunded is not tax you owe.
  • Tax on freight counts as tax collected.
  • Zero-rated and exempt sales are shown, not dropped, as Zero-rated (credits claimable) and Exempt (no credits), because you may claim input tax credits for zero-rated supplies but not for exempt ones.
  • UNCLASSIFIED 0% — set each rate as zero-rated or exempt appears when a 0% rate has not been marked as either. Classify the rate (see Tax rates and tax groups) before filing.
  • UNATTRIBUTED — rate not on this device appears when tax was charged at a rate this computer does not know yet. Refresh, and let SeroBooks update its tax rates.

Tiles: Taxable sales, Tax collected, Zero-rated, Exempt, Credit notes netted (how many), and a check: Reconciles ✓ with the total when taxable amounts and tax add up to the documents' totals, or DOES NOT RECONCILE with both figures when they do not. TAX NOT ATTRIBUTED — do not file and UNCLASSIFIED 0% turnover tiles appear when those rows do.

When the period is a rolling window (7, 30 or 90 days) an amber banner says: This is a rolling window ending today, not a filing period. Pick a quarter, month or year before filing anything from these figures.

Double-click a tax row to open the GST/HST Return Detail report for that rate and period, listing every document behind it.

Common problems

ProblemFix
Amber MINIMUM bannerThe period holds more documents than the screen fetches. Choose a shorter period, or use the matching Report Centre report, which has no such limit for normal periods.
DOES NOT RECONCILE on the Tax reportSome tax on the documents could not be matched to a rate. Look for an UNATTRIBUTED row, refresh, and check your tax rates. Do not file from it until it reconciles.
Inventory Value at cost (INCOMPLETE)Some items in stock have no purchase cost. Set a cost on those items (see Add or edit an item).
Sales figures differ from the Sales by Item SummaryThis screen totals invoices including tax and does not subtract credit memos; the Report Centre sales reports are before tax and net of credit memos.
Could not build this reportThe figures could not be fetched. Check your connection and click Try again.
