The Customer Type List holds the names you use to group customers: Retail, Wholesale, Referral, Government. Types can have sub-types, such as Wholesale:Distributors and Wholesale:Restaurants.
Opening it
- Lists ▸ Customer & Vendor Profile Lists ▸ Customer Type List.
- Edit ▸ Preferences ▸ Sales & Customers ▸ Customer Type List.
From the menu it opens over the Home Page, and Esc takes you back to the Home Page. From Preferences it opens on top of Preferences, and Esc goes back there. It needs permission for the Customer Centre.
The line under the title reads Group customers: Retail, Wholesale, Referral… Each customer's type is set on their own form.
Add a customer type, step by step
- Choose New Customer Type.
- Type the Customer Type Name.
- To make it a sub-type, tick Subtype of and choose the parent type.
- Choose OK.
The list shows each type under its parent, indented. Customer Type is inactive in the dialog, or Make inactive on the row, hides a type (and its sub-types) without deleting it. See Lists in SeroBooks for the rules every small list follows.
Using customer types
Give a customer their type on their own record: Customer type under Trade terms on the customer form (see Add or edit a customer). Choose (none) to take it off. An inactive type stays on the customers who already have it. To give a group of customers their own prices or discounts, use Price Levels.
