Find in This Window searches the window in front of you. It is for finding a line on a report, a document in a list, or an item on an invoice, without leaving the screen you are on. To search the whole company for a transaction, use Advanced Find instead.

Using it

Press Ctrl+F or F3, or choose Edit ▸ Find in This Window. What happens depends on the window in front:

A reportPuts the cursor in the report's Search this report… box.
Create InvoicesPuts the cursor in the item search box at the top of the lines ("Scan barcode or type item name / SKU — Enter adds the line") and selects what is in it, so you can type the next item straight away.

Searching a list

Lists with eight or more rows have a toolbar above the rows:

  • Search this list… — type and the list narrows as you type, matching any column.
  • Press Enter to pin what you typed. It becomes a chip above the list, the box empties, and what you type next narrows the list further. For example, pin Surrey, then type overdue.
  • Click the × in the box, or press Esc, to empty it. A second Esc goes back as usual.
  • Filters — conditions on a column (a date range, an amount, a status), and saved views of the list.
  • Columns — choose which columns show.
  • Export and Email — send exactly what is on screen, filters included, as CSV, Excel or PDF.

Click a column heading to sort by it; click again to reverse the order. Use ↑ and ↓ to move through the rows and Enter to open the highlighted one.

Searching a report

Every report has a search bar with Search, Filters, Group By and Favourites:

  • Type in Search this report… to show only the lines that match.
  • F7, or the Filter button, opens the report's filters. Filter by *column* lists that column's values, with a Find a value box.
  • Favourites keeps searches you use often: Save current search… names the one you have set up.
  • Clear all removes the search and filters.
  • If nothing matches, the report says No lines match this search. with a Clear search button.

When a filtered report cannot total a column honestly (because that figure is not a plain sum of its lines), it says so under the report rather than showing a wrong total.
