The Dashboard (its screen title is Overview) is the set of figures you check first thing: what you sold today and this month, what customers owe you and how late it is, what you have to collect and what you have to pay by due date, what sold best and who bought it, and anything that needs your attention. Every card opens the list or report behind it, so a number that surprises you is one click from the invoices that make it up.
The Dashboard is different from the Home Page: the Home Page is a launch pad with no figures, and the Dashboard is all figures.
Opening the Dashboard
- Company ▸ Dashboard, or press Ctrl+1.
- On the Home Page, click Overview in the Banking panel.
The Dashboard opens in its own window. The Home Page stays underneath it.
The header
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Overview and as of time | The time the figures were last loaded, for example as of 9:42 AM. |
| 7d, 14d, 30d, 90d | The period the trend, payment mix, top products, top customers and brand cards cover — the last 7, 14, 30 or 90 days, ending today. 30d is selected when the screen opens. Choosing another period reloads the figures. |
| Refresh | Loads every card again, including the due-date cards. |
The four figures across the top
| Tile | What it shows | Click it to open |
|---|---|---|
| Today's sales | Everything invoiced today, and underneath, how many invoices that is. | The Invoices list |
| This month | Sales from the first of this month to today, and the invoice count. | The Invoices list |
| Receivables | Everything customers owe you on open invoices. Underneath, in red, how much of it is overdue — or nothing overdue in green. | Customer Balances |
| Last N days | Sales for the chosen period (7, 14, 30 or 90 days). Underneath, the change against the previous period of the same length (▲ green or ▼ red with a percentage), or the average sale when there was no previous period. | — |
Sales figures are what customers were charged, including sales tax. Estimates, drafts and open sales orders are not sales and are never counted; refunds are netted out.
If your company sells through a connected Amazon account, the tiles include those sales too. The line under the figure then names the channel, for example $1,240.00 on Amazon incl. tax, and says how much of it Amazon has not settled yet. Those sales reach your books only when the settlement posts, so they are not in the Invoices list on the day of the sale. See Amazon in SeroBooks.
The cards
Below the tiles are the cards. You can move them, resize them, change how their charts are drawn, tint them and hide them — see Arranging the Dashboard.
Sales trend
Sales for each day of the chosen period. Drawn as a Smooth curve (the default), the previous period of the same length is drawn behind it as a fainter line labelled previous, so you can see at a glance whether you are ahead. Drawn as Bars, only this period is shown. No sales in this range appears when there is nothing to draw.
Payments taken
The payments received against invoices dated in the period, by payment method: Cash, Debit, Credit, Cheque, e-Transfer, any payment methods your business added itself (by their own names), and Other. Refunds are subtracted. The largest method is first; when there are more than six, the five largest are shown and the rest are added into Other. Choose Bars or Pie (a ring with the total in the middle and a legend showing each method's share and amount).
A payment method you added yourself with a name like E-Transfer, Interac e-transfer or DEBIT is counted with the built-in method of the same meaning, so you do not get two bars for one thing. See Payment methods.
Receivables aging
What customers owe on open invoices, split by how far past its due date each invoice is:
| Band | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Current | Not yet due. |
| 1-30 days | 1 to 30 days past the due date. |
| 31-60 days | 31 to 60 days past the due date. |
| Over 60 | More than 60 days past the due date. |
The due date comes from the invoice's terms, or the customer's terms when the invoice has none. A coloured bar shows the proportion in each band, with the amounts listed underneath. Open receivables opens Customer Balances. The card says Nothing outstanding when every invoice is paid. For the full detail, run A/R Aging Summary or A/R Aging Detail — see Customers & Receivables reports.
Money to collect and Bills to pay
Two cards answer the Monday-morning question: what do I have to collect, and what do I have to pay, and when? Money to collect reads the Money to Collect by Due Date report; Bills to pay reads Bills to Pay by Due Date. The figures are the reports' own, so the card, the report, its PDF and its email always agree, and they agree with A/R and A/P Aging.
Each card shows:
- the total at the top right, and By due date · as of today's date;
- one line per window, with the number of documents and the amount:
| Window | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Overdue (in red) | Past its due date. |
| Due today | Due today. |
| Due in the next 7 days | Due in 1 to 7 days. |
| Due in 8 to 30 days | Due in 8 to 30 days. |
| Due later | Due more than 30 days from today. |
| Credits not yet applied | Credits (credit memos, overpayments, vendor credits) not yet used, shown on their own rather than netted into a week. |
- under a divider, the documents themselves, soonest due first: number and name, how late or how soon (12 days late, today, in 5 days) and the amount still owed. Up to six are listed, then and N more — Open report lists them all. Click a line to open that invoice or bill.
- three buttons: Email (sends the report as a table), Export (saves it as CSV, Excel or PDF) and Open report (opens the full report in the report viewer, where you can filter by customer or vendor). Email and Export are available only when there is something on the card.
When nothing is owed the cards say No customer owes you anything and Nothing owed to suppliers. If a card could not load, it shows the reason and Try again.
Top products and Top customers
The six items, and the six customers, with the highest sales in the period, each with a bar scaled to the largest and the amount beside the name. Product sales are quantity × the price charged including tax. No sales yet appears when the period is empty.
Sales by brand
Only shown if your company has brands set up on items. Sales by brand for the period, as Bars or Pie, up to eight brands; sales of items with no brand are shown as (No brand) so the card still adds up to your sales.
Expiring soon
Only shown when your company tracks lot expiry dates and something expires within 30 days. It lists up to six lots with the days left (red when under 7 days, or expired) and the value at risk, with the total at risk at the top. See Lot numbers and expiry.
Needs attention
A short list of things waiting on you. Each line opens the list that deals with it:
| Line | Opens |
|---|---|
| N overdue invoices · amount — Past their due date · chase or send statements (an invoice is overdue the day after its due date, as in A/R Aging) | Customer Balances. Under it, up to five of the overdue invoices themselves, oldest first — click one to open it. |
| N open quotations — Follow up and convert to invoices | The Estimates list |
| N batch(es) expiring within 30 days — with how many have already expired and the value at risk | Lot Expiration |
When there is nothing to do the card says All clear — nothing waiting on you.
Recent activity
The eight most recent invoices: date and time, invoice number and customer, and total, with an icon for how it was paid. All invoices opens the Invoices list. No recent invoices appears for a new company.
Arranging the Dashboard
- Click Arrange (above the cards on the right). The button changes to Done arranging, and a grip and a dial appear at the top right of every card. The hint Drag a card to move it · tap the dial to size it appears.
- To move a card, press and hold it for a moment, then drag it onto the card whose place it should take.
- To change a card, click its dial. The card's settings open:
| Setting | Choices |
|---|---|
| WIDTH | One third, Half or Full width of a row. |
| CHART STYLE | Only for cards with a chart: Smooth curve or Bars for Sales trend; Bars or Pie for Payments taken and Sales by brand. Cards with no chart say so. |
| BACKGROUND | A tint for the card: white, slate, stone, blue, indigo, violet, purple, pink, rose, red, orange, amber, yellow, lime, green, emerald, teal, cyan or sky. |
| Show this card | Turn off to hide the card. Hidden cards come back from Arrange ▸ Reset. |
Click Done to close the settings.
- Reset layout (shown while arranging) puts every card back in its original place, size and style and shows hidden cards again.
- Click Done arranging, or press Esc, to finish. The first Esc ends arranging; the next one leaves the Dashboard.
Outside Arrange, you can also press and hold any card to open its settings.
Your layout belongs to you, not to the company: it is saved to your sign-in and follows you to any computer you sign in on. Another person's arrangement never changes yours. A card added in a later version of SeroBooks appears at the end of your arrangement.
Permissions
The Dashboard needs the Dashboard ▸ Overview permission. A role without it still has the Home Page. The due-date cards' Open report asks for the Report Centre permission. See Roles and permissions explained.
Tips
- Use 7d in a busy week to see day-to-day movement and 90d to see the season.
- The overdue lines under Needs attention and on Money to collect are the quickest way to decide who to call. The Collections Center then keeps notes of each call.
- Email Bills to pay to whoever signs the cheques on Monday morning.
Common problems
Today's sales does not match my Invoices list. The tile includes connected marketplace sales (the line under it names the channel), which only appear as invoices when the settlement posts. Estimates and open sales orders are never counted.
An invoice I just saved is not on the Dashboard. Click Refresh. The Dashboard shows the last figures straight away and replaces them as soon as fresh ones arrive.
Could not load the dashboard. The screen shows the reason and Try again. Check your internet connection and click Try again.
A card has disappeared. It was hidden. Click Arrange, then Reset layout.
Receivables aging disagrees with the Receivables tile's overdue figure. They use the same rule — past the invoice's due date — so they should agree after a Refresh. If they still differ, compare with A/R Aging Detail.
