American sales tax, and knowing when you owe it

American sales tax is not one tax; it is a few thousand of them, and the hard part is not the rate but knowing which states you have become liable in. SeroBooks applies tax by destination and watches your own sales against each state's economic nexus threshold, so the obligation surfaces while you can still register cleanly.

What you get

Tax by destination
State and local rates applied per line, on the same engine that handles GST, HST, PST and QST.
Economic nexus, measured
Your sales counted against each state's own threshold — some count transactions, some count dollars, and some count differently again.
Thresholds carry a date
They change, so the figures the system uses are dated and re-checked rather than quietly aging.
Books that cannot be confused
American books and Canadian books stay apart — different tax, different payroll, different year end.

Frequently asked questions

Does it file the returns for me?

No. It gets the tax right on the documents, tells you where you have crossed a threshold, and produces the numbers to file with. Filing itself is still yours.

How current are the thresholds?

Reviewed on a schedule and dated in the product, most recently 28 August 2026. A threshold with no date on it is a number nobody is maintaining.

Can I sell into the US from Canada?

Yes, and that is exactly the case nexus exists for — you can create a filing obligation in a state you have never visited.
