Price by policy, not by memory

Customer groups attach a pricing policy to a kind of customer: retail pays shelf, Wholesale takes 10% off, Staff gets cost-plus. The policy applies the moment the customer lands on a document — invoice, quote or order — with no one at the counter deciding anything. Pricing stops being a negotiation and becomes configuration.

The group price is the line's base price, not a discount stacked on top. Discounts remain their own thing — separately recorded, permission-gated — so 'what we charge wholesale' and 'what we knocked off today' never blur in reporting.

Every price level, visible where you sell

Product 360 shows the shelf price and every group price attached to an item on one card, so 'what does this cost trade?' is answered without opening an admin screen. 'Everyone pays list' is stated explicitly when no group pricing exists — the absence of a policy is information too.

Because groups live on the customer record, the same customer gets the same price at every till and every location. Consistency is the whole point of a price list.

Wholesale and retail on one counter

Plenty of Canadian businesses are both: the cash-and-carry that serves walk-ins at shelf price and restaurants on trade terms. Groups make the split effortless — the walk-in pays list, the account customer's group price loads automatically, and both ring through the same screen at full speed.

Quotes and orders honour group pricing too, so the price offered is the price charged when the quote converts, weeks later, without anyone checking.

Changes take effect everywhere, at once

Adjust a group's terms and every member's pricing follows from the next document onward — hundreds of accounts repriced by one edit, with history intact: documents already issued keep the prices they were issued at.

It is the difference between managing prices and chasing them.

Frequently asked questions

What wins — a group price or a manual discount?

The group price sets the line's base; discounts on top of it are separately recorded and permission-gated, so the two never blur in reporting.
