Payroll that posts itself, in both countries

Payroll is where most accounting software hands you off to a second product and a second bill. SeroBooks runs it in the same ledger as everything else: gross to net for Canada and the United States, remittances built from the run rather than retyped, and slips at year end that reconcile to the payroll you actually paid.

What you get

Canada, properly
CPP with the ceiling, EI, provincial tax, Ontario Health Premium, and Quebec's QPP and QPIP as their own calculation.
United States
Federal and state withholding, Social Security and Medicare, calculated on the same engine.
T4s, RL-1s and W-2s
Built from the year that was actually run, with the returns that accompany them.
Contractor slips
T4A and T5018 for the people who are not employees.
Posted once
A pay run reaches the ledger exactly once — wages, source deductions and the employer's own cost, each to its own account.
Effective-dated rates
A tax year is loaded as data, so last year's payroll still recalculates the way it was actually paid.

Frequently asked questions

Does it produce a Record of Employment?

No. The ROE is not built, and if it is a hard requirement for you that has to be solved elsewhere. We would rather say so here than let you find out in March.

Which plan includes payroll?

Pro. Standard is the whole of the books without it, and the pricing page says so on the card rather than in the small print.

How do you know the arithmetic is right?

It is checked against hand-worked examples from the authorities' own figures on every deploy — 66 assertions for Canada, 53 for the United States — and a separate suite proves a pay run lands in the ledger once and refuses to land twice.

Can one company pay staff in both countries?

The engines are separate and so are the books. A Canadian company and an American one cannot be confused with each other, which is checked by 359 assertions of its own.
