What is debit note?
The purchasing mirror of a credit note: a document charging a supplier back — for returned goods, short deliveries, or rejects. It reduces what you owe and gives the dispute a paper form.
Example
A supplier bills for 100 units but only 92 arrived. A debit note for the eight missing units reduces what you owe them and documents the claim.
Because it is raised against the original bill, it cannot exceed what is still returnable — the same discipline that keeps customer credit notes honest.
