Every unit, by its own number
When a customer walks in with a dead phone, the question is not 'do you sell this model' — it is 'did you sell THIS one, and when'. Serial tracking answers it: every serialized unit is registered, sold against, and looked up in seconds.
What you get
Per-unit answers, not product guesses
A serial number is one physical item. Track it and the questions that plague electronics, appliance and tool retail get exact answers: did we sell this one, when, to whom, and what warranty is on it. Product-level records can never say; serial-level records always can.
SeroBooks captures serials where they physically occur — scanned in at goods receipt, scanned out at sale — so the serial file is a record of events, not a typing exercise.
The lookup that ends counter arguments
Serial / IMEI Lookup is one box with one job: scan or type any serial you ever booked in and the screen returns the sale, the customer, the date and the warranty recorded on that line. A warranty claim becomes a ten-second scan instead of a filing-cabinet search.
'No sale found' is a real answer too: the unit is still in stock, or it was never booked in — both worth knowing, especially for the 'did this come from you?' enquiry with stolen goods on the counter.
Rules that keep the file true
A serial that was never received cannot be sold — scanning at goods-in is what makes a unit sellable. A returned serial becomes available again; one written off as damaged is retired and can never be sold by mistake later. The lifecycle is enforced, not documented.
GRNs fold a serialized delivery into one line carrying its serials, so receiving twenty phones is one row to check, with twenty scans behind it.
Warranties attached at the moment of sale
The selling screen records the warranty on the line — including extended cover the customer bought — against the exact serial leaving the building. Two years later, the claim conversation starts from the record, not from the customer's memory of it.
Scan the box in front of you rather than picking from a list: the discipline the screen encourages, because the lookup is only as honest as the scan.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to serialize everything?
No — tracking depth is per product. Serialize the phones, not the phone cases.
